What can we offer you?

West Bridgford Rugby Club gives rugby coaching to children aged from 5 years and teams from U7's through to U19's. Our coaches are very experienced usually Dads that have played or still do play rugby and so have a good knowledge of the game. They have then gone on to do coaching courses to become qualified to take on a group of children.
Cost of the coaching is pretty reasonable compared to other sports. Under 6 to Under 15yrs is an annual membership of £45.00 or £40.00 on the registration evening. Under 16's and over is £55.00 or £50.00 on registration evening.

Registration is on Thursday 7 September at the clubhouse. These charges include all match taxes so there is nothing to pay extra on a Sunday morning. The membership is important as it includes insurance for your child. Each child is also registered with the R.F.U for this we require 3 passport sized photos.

When and Where?

We train and play and West Bridgford Sports Club on Stamford Road (opposite the Willow Tree Pub) on Sundays 10.30 – 12.00.

Is there any travelling involved?

Yes. All teams have away fixtures. Most of these are in the Nottingham area but some are elsewhere such as Derby, Newark, Ilkeston, Mansfield etc. as you can see these are a little further afield but parents and coaches organize themselves and are able to offer transport for those who can't.

Who do you contact to join?

Anyone! Simply come down on a Sunday morning and ask, we are a very friendly club and someone will point you in the right direction.

See our contacts page

Kit

Bridgford shirts are black, red and gold and are on sale at the clubhouse on Sunday mornings but they are no means compulsory any sports kit is suitable preferably in layers so you can strip on or off according to the weather. The younger ones often wear tracksuit bottoms and wooly hats during the icy weather.

Football boots are suitable for the younger age groups but the older teams should wear rugby boots or football boots with rugby studs fitted (the ref may check footwear). Sometimes when the ground is really hard we will recommend trainers to train in as this prevents injuries.

We do have a selection of secondhand shirts and boots, parents pass them on as their child grows too big for them. The boot box is located in the porta-cabin on site and the idea is that you swap your boots for a bigger size, which eases the strain on mum and dad's pockets.

Mouthguards are recommended to protect teeth, your dentist can advise you if necessary.

Child protection and safety

We follow the R.F.U. guidelines for child protection and have our own child protection officer and policy. First Aid is always available on site and many of the parents or coaches on site are teachers, nurses or doctors and so have a good knowledge of first aid.

Club Facilities

Facilities include changing rooms, showers, kitchen and bar areas, all of which are well used. We have applied to the lottery commission to extend and improve our facilities for both the rugby and cricket.

Each Sunday the kitchen is open, we supply free squash for the kids during the morning and can supply parents with bacon/sausage butties/tea/coffee etc at very reasonable prices. At lunchtimes we sell chips etc and provide any visiting team meals free of charge which is customary in rugby. We also sell sweets, soft drinks and chocolate.

The bar opens at lunchtime too, so you can stay and have a pint and a chat to your coaches while the kid's finish their chips.

The clubhouse is also available to hire for parties etc.

Social Events?

Yes. We are a very family friendly club and have a number of social events throughout the year some for families, some for just the parents(to give them the night off from the kids) or some just for the kids(to give them a night off from the Parents!!). Events include barbcues, celebration dinners, race nights, kareoke etc. These are held at the club or at local pubs or restaurants. For the kid's we have had trips to Twickenham, Run Riot and xmas parties

How can you help?

Anyway, anyhow you can!!

We accept any help you can give from pumping up the balls to offering sponsorship monies for clubhouse funds or equipment.

If you help a coach to collect subs and take names you get the proud title of MANAGER for that age group. This is great as this means the coaches can get on without having to waste half an hour training time.

If you are interested in coaching either as an assistant or as a fully qualified coach, we are happy to assist you. Coaching courses are paid by the club. For information regarding courses talk to us or contact stevesmith@rfu.com

WBRFC Junior Section is run by a committee which includes all the coaches and managers of the teams plus volunteers who take up the positions of treasurer, secretary, kit officer, catering officer, registration officer etc. We are always in need of extra volunteers on the committee; people who can bring fresh skills and ideas to the club. Remember these posts can be shared not just the work of one person.

If you don't wish to have the commitment of coaching or committee posts, you can still help by joining the rota for the kitchen, sweet stall or kit stall for either regular or the odd Sunday morning.

Our volunteers help build a rugby club for the kids to be proud of.

On our website you will find fixtures, results, contact information, West Bridgford News and much more. If you are interested in writing a page for the site please click here
